Day of action to combat violence against women
Film screening and discussion on 25 November, 4.30 pm, Weltecho
On Saturday, 25 November - the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - the film "Die Ungehorsame" will be shown at Weltecho, Annaberger Straße 24, from 4 pm. Afterwards, the staff of Frauenhilfe e. V., the police victim protection officer and the equal opportunities officer of the city of Chemnitz, Pia Hamann, will be available for discussions and questions.
Admission is free of charge. Representatives of the media are also invited.
The film "Die Ungehorsame" addresses the topic of domestic violence. It tells the story of an initially harmonious relationship that gradually changes, leading to abuse and ultimately murder.
This year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is also being supported by energy supplier eins. To draw attention to the issue, eins will be illuminating only the orange section of the 302-metre-high chimney from dusk on 25 November until sunrise the next day.
"Violence against women is one of the most widespread human rights violations. It is a global phenomenon and can occur anywhere: in any country, on the street or at home. This includes stalking and harassment as well as domestic violence and rape," says Pia Hamann.

The International Day against Violence against Women, known as Orange Day, is an annual day of remembrance and action on 25 November to combat all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls.
The United Nations estimates that more than 35 per cent of all women worldwide are victims of sexual or physical violence at least once in their lives. In Germany, one in four women has experienced physical or sexual violence at least once in her life. In around half of all cases, the partner is responsible for these offences.
The number of victims of domestic violence in 2022 was 240,547, an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to 2021. The 2022 police crime statistics also show that there were 157,550 victims of intimate partner violence in Germany last year, 80.1 per cent of whom were female. In the case of sexual offences, 93.5 percent of victims were female. 133 women were killed by their partners in 2022. The suspected dark field is much larger.
In armed conflicts, women are also increasingly exposed to gender-specific violence - from sexual violence and rape to genocide. That is why 25 November also applies to women in all war zones around the world.
