Dates for the 2020 mayoral election have been set
The election of the Lord Mayor for the term of office 2020 to 2027 will take place on Sunday, 14 June 2020. The second ballot, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, 5 July 2020. This was decided by the City Council today.
According to the Saxon municipal code, the election must take place between 13 June and 13 August. The dates that have now been decided were set in consideration of the summer holidays. Mayor Miko Runkel was elected Chairman of the City Election Committee and will be represented by Dr Reiner Hausding, Head of the Chemnitz City Electoral Authority.
The term of office of Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, who is not standing for re-election after two terms in office, ends on 13 September 2020. The term of office of the new Lord Mayor begins on the following day.
