Darknet - digital underworld

Lecture at the adult education centre on 20 January, 7 pm

On Monday, 20 January 2020, 7 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to a lecture on the Darknet in the event hall at the TIETZ. Admission is free.

Berlin-based author and journalist Stefan Mey will talk about his book "Darknet - Waffen, Drogen, Whistleblower". He will explain what the darknet is, how anonymisation works and what exciting and problematic content can be found on the darknet.

The darknet is full of contradictions: the digital underworld is a highly professional "shopping mall" for drugs. Paedophiles abuse the anonymity to exchange child pornography. Political activists use the darknet to protect themselves from surveillance. Media offer hyper-anonymous mailboxes for potential whistleblowers.

The discussion with the audience could also centre on this question: Is the darknet a politically important counter-concept to today's perfectly monitorable internet?

This event is a co-operation between the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
