DA CAPO - Music for seniors
Music café at Kraftwerk e. V. with Matthias Eisenberg
On 1 September 2016 at 3 pm, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will once again be hosting a music café entitled "DA CAPO - Music for Seniors" in the main hall of Kraftwerk e. V. at Kaßbergstraße 36. This time, guests of the music café can welcome Matthias Eisenberg, organist, harpsichordist and church musician. Admission is five euros including coffee and cake.
In conversation with Nancy Gibson, Director of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Matthias Eisenberg will talk about his life as an organist and church musician. Guests will also hear well-known melodies.
Matthias Eisenberg has been taking piano lessons since the age of five. Thanks to his musical environment, it was not difficult for him to learn to play the organ. From the age of nine, he was an organist in his home town in Saxony and at various neighbouring parishes. He was also a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor for five years. He studied at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy in Leipzig with Wolfgang Schetelich. Eisenberg has won prizes at several international competitions.
Thanks to his extensive repertoire, which he can perform at any time, he has achieved an unusual level of popularity for an organist. He is also considered a master of free improvisation. He is consulted as an organ specialist for numerous organ rebuilds and renovations. In 1980, he was appointed organist at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, where he was also harpsichordist of the Leipzig Bach Orchestra. In 1986, he moved to the West. After working as a church musician in Frankfurt am Main and Hanover, he gave concerts as an organist and harpsichordist and recorded numerous radio and CD productions. Concert tours have taken him to many European countries, as well as to the USA, Canada, Latin America, India, Russia and the Far East.
From 1992 to 2004, Eisenberg was church musician at St Severin in Keitum/Sylt. From there, he continued his concert activities on the mainland unabated. In 2003, Matthias Eisenberg was appointed professor and church music director.
From 2004 to 2013, he was cantor and organist at the Luther, Moritz and Johanniskirche churches in Zwickau. He currently lives in Straupitz in the Spreewald.
There is barrier-free access for wheelchair users at the signposted side entrance.
