Cyclists on the Chemnitz Valley cycle path are counted
Permanent counting station installed at Untere Hauptstraße 170c for six months
This week, the City of Chemnitz Traffic and Civil Engineering Department is putting a permanent counting station into operation on the Chemnitztal cycle path in Wittgensdorf (at Untere Hauptstraße 170c). This records the number of cyclists in each direction over a period of approx. six months.
The counting is carried out using induction loops made of very thin wires that can easily be rolled over. They are stuck to the tarmac and removed without leaving any residue after the count. There are no obstructions for cyclists during the entire period.
The site is part of the cycling tourism strategy commissioned by the Saxon State Parliament for the Free State of Saxony. Throughout the 2024 cycling season, the volume of cycle tourism will be measured at various points in the road network throughout Saxony. The aim is to further promote the development of cycling and year-round tourism.
The count will be accompanied by an additional survey of local cyclists. The company carrying out the survey is absolutGPS GmbH, which was commissioned by the state of Saxony.
