Cut your own Christmas trees
Christmas tree sale on Saturday, 7 December, at the Ebersdorf forest
The City of Chemnitz Parks Department will be selling Christmas trees again on Saturday, 7 December 2019, between 9 am and 12 noon. These are blue spruce trees around 1.50 to 4 metres high, which you can select and cut yourself. If necessary, the forestry workers will of course lend a helping hand.
The trees are grown without the use of pesticides or fertilisers. This year, a tree costs just 10 euros, payable by EC card or cash. It is also possible to take the tops of larger trees for the same price. The low price is due to the fact that some trees have slightly discoloured needles caused by needle fungi - but this is completely harmless to humans, animals and houseplants. If you wish, you can take your tree home wrapped in a net.
Handsaws can be borrowed. Bringing your own handsaw saves waiting time. The use of your own chainsaws is not permitted.
Access by car is from the Tännichtleite to the edge of the forest, through the open barrier on the path next to the power lines to the Christmas tree sales areas. From Stiftsweg and Slevogtstraße, access to the two sales sites will be signposted. This year, both tree sites are equipped with packaging funnels.
The ticket office is located in front of the railway subway. This is also the only place where you can obtain the necessary receipt to leave the site with a Christmas tree. Exit is only possible through the railway subway and the street "An der Bahnstrecke". Turning is not permitted due to the narrow paths.
A site plan can be viewed on the Internet at www.chemnitz.de/weihnachtsbaum.
For the time being, this will be the last Christmas tree sale organised by the Parks Department until the new conifers in Ebersdorf Forest have reached Christmas tree size.
