Bridge An der Markthalle, Fabrikstraße will be closed - water defence on call

Based on the weather forecast of the German Weather Service and after consultation with the state dam administration, the city of Chemnitz is taking initial measures. The public sandbag filling areas will be opened and the bridge An der Markthalle, Fabrikstraße will be closed as a precautionary measure.

The public sandbag filling areas

  • Central building yard, Blankenburgstraße 62, 09114 Chemnitz (Furth district) and
  • Reichenhainer Straße sandbag filling site, Reichenhainer Straße 155, 09125 Chemnitz (Bernsdorf district)

are open at the following times: today, Friday, 31 May, from 2 pm to 7 pm, tomorrow, Saturday, 1 June, from 8 am to 12 pm, and on Sunday, 2 June, as required.

Citizens can fill sandbags with sand free of charge at the sandbag filling stations and take the filled bags with them.

The mobile flood protection walls at the Klaffenbach moated castle and on Annaberger Straße to protect the city centre will be set up. The water defence was put on call.

Due to the possible flood situation in the coming days, the bridge An der Markthalle, Fabrikstraße will be fully closed to pedestrian traffic from 1 p.m. today at the latest as a precautionary measure. It will then be raised in order to increase the flow cross-section at this point.

Despite all efforts, everyone who may be affected by flooding is obliged to take their own precautionary measures to protect against flooding and minimise damage as far as possible and reasonable.
