Cultursommer 2021 - almost half a million euros for Chemnitz's cultural and event scene
The German Federal Cultural Foundation is funding the Chemnitz "Cultursommer 2021" project with 480,000 euros.
"Culture is the soul of the city and Cultursommer 2021 will once again give this soul many voices," said Lord Mayor Sven Schulze. He was very happy that the federal government is providing this sum for the programme. "With the city's own funds of 120,000 euros, we have 600,000 euros for culture this summer, which is a wonderful thing."
The aim of Cultursommer 2021 is to enjoy culture for free and outdoors while supporting regional cultural professionals and event organisers. After the challenging time of lockdown, the city will once again become a cultural centre and stage. The city centre, neighbourhoods and villages will all be equally involved.
The festival runs from July to September. Events are planned for weekends from Friday to Sunday. A children's and youth programme as well as an evening programme ensure the involvement of young and old and many opportunities for independent artists from the city and region.
All areas of Chemnitz culture will be included in the Cultursommer 2021 programme.
A programme council consisting of members of the City of Chemnitz Cultural Committee and the independent cultural sector will decide which artists will take part in the programme. This committee will meet tomorrow and may already make initial decisions.
The programme for Cultursommer 2021, which is being organised by C3 Chemnitz event centres and the City of Chemnitz's culture department, will soon be available atwww.cultursommer.de.
The Cultursommer 2021 is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) with funds from NEUSTART KULTUR as part of the Kultursommer 2021 programme.
