Culture Committee decides to purchase two sculptures
At its meeting on Thursday, 4 January 2018, the City of Chemnitz's Culture Committee decided to acquire two sculptures for the design of the future Friedensplatz and the grounds of the New Technical Town Hall.
The two sculptures are the "Reliquie Mensch" by Michael Morgner and the "Doppelbogen variabel" by Wolfram Schneider. They were offered for sale by a gallery on behalf of the owner. The acquisition by the City of Chemnitz will preserve public access to the sculptures.
The total costs, including installation, amount to around 64,000 euros.
The artworks are to be installed by the time of the official inauguration of Friedensplatz on 5 March 2018. Friedensplatz and the exterior of the New Technical Town Hall, which has an undulating blue and red façade, are to be given an artistic design. This will stylishly emphasise the special significance of the building ensemble and at the same time underline its representative and inviting character.
