Culture Committee decides to promote Chemnitz culture in 2016:
More than two million euros for independent culture Investment boost for cultural institutions in Chemnitz
At its most recent meeting, the Culture Committee confirmed the institutional and project-related cultural funding for 2016. A total of more than 2.2 million euros will flow into 91 institutions, associations and projects in the fields of museum work, performing arts, music, visual and applied arts, film, literature, socio-culture, local history and customs, youth culture and individual projects. The list of applicants is long and reflects the Chemnitz cultural scene and the opportunities for art and creativity in Chemnitz.
Before the decision was made, the experts on the Cultural Advisory Board and the city councillors looked at the applications in detail. Since 2015, 300,000.00 euros more have been available for cultural funding.
Ferenc Csák, Head of Cultural Operations for the City of Chemnitz, is delighted with the decision: "Many outstanding and innovative projects such as the 'Spinning Jenny Theatre Days', the 'Undiscovered Neighbours' theatre days and other independent theatre projects can now rely on the city's support. Particularly noteworthy are the performance festival DIAGOGFELDER, the 'Grenzüberschreitungen' of the Jazzclub Fuchs e. V and the 'Fete de la Musique' project, which will once again invite Chemnitz residents and guests to the city centre on 21 June 2016."
Several art projects will also receive funding, including the "Begehungen" art festival, the projects of Klub Solitaer e. V., the International Marianne Brandt Competition, which is taking place for the sixth time, projects by young but also established filmmakers, such as Beate Kunath, literature projects by the Goethe Society, the Chemnitz authors' associations and akzente e. V.
The approved funding will enable young alternative projects to experiment with literature and art in 2016, such as Subbotnik e. V. with "Lesehunger?", KaffeeSatz e. V. on the Sonnenberg and the Odradek reading café.
The funding applications for the projects "Days of Jewish Culture", "Chemnitz Peace Day", "Intercultural Weeks"International Film Festival "Schlingel", "Sächsisches Mozartfest" and the "Welcome to Chemnitz 2016" project by Kulturwerkstatt e. V. V. once again secured the project organisers a place in the cultural funding list.
The Culture Committee also passed a resolution to earmark so-called "investment reinforcement funds for cultural institutions" (special funds from the Free State of Saxony). A total of 399,900.00 euros is available to the Chemnitz urban cultural area for this purpose. Among others, the Ufer e. V. association in WELTECHO, Radio T e. V., the Bandbüro e. V., the Küchwaldbühne e. V., the municipal theatres and the Kulturbetrieb can receive a financial injection for necessary renovations, technical connections or purchases.
The two draft resolutions no. B-048/2016 and no. B-049/2016 with the complete lists of the subsidised measures are available in the City of Chemnitz's council information system:
