Culture Committee decides on funding for cultural institutions and measures in 2018
Independent cultural organisations receive a total of around 2.3 million euros in funding
At its public meeting on Thursday, 4 January 2018, the Culture Committee approved funding for cultural institutions and measures totalling around 2.3 million euros.
More than 80 applicants in the categories of museums/collections/gardens, performing arts, music, visual/applied arts, film/media, literature, cultural and communication centres/socioculture, preservation of local history and customs as well as youth culture will receive funding. It is funded both institutionally and on a project basis.
The City of Chemnitz considers the artists, cultural associations and initiatives active in the city area to be key supporters of cultural life. A lively independent cultural scene made up of associations, project groups and artists plays a key role in shaping the intellectual and cultural climate in our city.
In addition to operating municipal cultural institutions (such as Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH, C³ Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, Kunstsammlungen und Kulturbetrieb) and being a member of the Zweckverband Sächsisches Industriemuseum, the City of Chemnitz ensures that independent cultural institutions and actors are provided with appropriate financial support for their range of offers and events.
To this end, the City of Chemnitz, as an urban cultural area, receives allocations from the Free State of Saxony on the basis of the Saxon Cultural Areas Act to promote all cultural institutions and measures of regional importance, regardless of their organisation and legal form.
