Culture Committee decides on cultural funding for 2019
Around 2.9 million euros for independent culture in Chemnitz - 94 funding measures for a diverse cultural landscape
At its meeting on 31 January, the Culture Committee approved the institutional and project-related cultural funding for 2019. The funding totalling 2.9 million euros will go to 94 institutions, associations and projects in the fields of museums, performing arts, music, visual and applied arts, film/media, literature, socio-culture, local history, youth culture and individual projects. Thanks to additional cultural area funds totalling 500,000 euros, the funding budget was significantly increased compared to the previous year.
In addition to institutionally funded organisations, festivals and major international events can now also be noticeably better supported and become more of a focus for the Chemnitz public and the region, as well as international experts.
At its meeting on 19 December 2018, the city council also decided to increase funding by a further €48,500 for selected measures in order to better meet the justified needs of individual measures.
The Cultural Advisory Board intensively discussed cultural funding for 2019 in advance and submitted well-founded recommendations to the City Council and Cultural Committee based on the City of Chemnitz's proposed resolution. It is particularly pleasing that, in addition to 36 institutionally funded organisations, a total of 58 projects can be subsidised.
In 2019, institutional funding was provided, for example, to the association Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e. V., the Ebersdorfer Schulmuseum, the Museum für Sächsische Fahrzeuge e. V., the Arbeitsgemeinschaft "Straßenbahnfreunde Chemnitz" e. V., the Fritz-Theater and the Chemnitzer Filmwerkstatt with the Clubkino Siegmar and Radio T e. V.
The two associations Spinnerei e. V. with the two projects "Féte de la Musique Chemnitz" and the festival "POCHEN" as well as the club Solitaer e. V., which carries out important cultural work in the Sonnenberg district with its interdisciplinary programmes, were included in the institutional funding for the first time.
For the numerous festivals and major events on dance, film, music, design and international affairs, such as TANZ/MODERNE/TANZ, Sächsisches Mozartfest, Schlingel - Internationales Filmfestival füThe subsidy was increased for the qualification of artistic work and further establishment of the interdisciplinary festival "Uprising". The interdisciplinary festival "Uprising of Utopias" organised by the ASA-FF e. V. association examines which utopian models could be relevant in Chemnitz and how they can be told within a cultural framework. The 7th International Marianne Brandt Competition presents objects and design drawings by the Chemnitz-based artist that have never been shown before, thereby focussing on the initiated dialogue between contemporary

Cultural and communication centres such as Weltecho, Kraftwerk e. V. and Arthur e. V. contribute to the significant revitalisation of the city's cultural calendar and its cultural quarter with artistic means and intergenerational offerings. This work is supported by smaller socio-cultural organisations such as Subbotnik e. V., Stadtfabrikanten e. V., KaffeeSatz e. V. and akCente e. V..
