Culture Committee decides on cultural funding for 2017
Around 2.37 million euros for independent culture in Chemnitz - 98 funding measures for a diverse cultural landscape
At its meeting yesterday, the Culture Committee approved the institutional and project-related cultural funding for 2017. Around 2.37 million euros will flow into 98 institutions, associations and projects in the areas of museum work, performing arts, music, visual and applied arts, film, literature, socio-culture, local history, youth culture and individual projects. Overall, the budget for cultural funding was increased by 143,000 euros compared to the previous year.
On the one hand, five per cent was allocated to independent culture in the municipal budget, also thanks to additional cultural area funds, and in its February meeting, the city council also decided on a further increase of 50,000 euros in order to better meet the justified need for funding.
In addition to 32 institutionally funded facilities, a total of 66 projects will be subsidised. These include the Küchwaldbühne, the Ebersdorfer Schulmuseum, the Deutsches SPIELEmuseum, the Fritz-Theater, the independent theatre company KOMPLEX and a number of other cultural players on the Sonnenberg, the "Kreativlabor" project by ASA-FF e. V, the Sächsische Mozartgesellschaft, a number of music clubs and performers, the "Féte de la Musique Chemnitz" project, which will once again provide music in the city centre on 21 June. The Chemnitz Artists' Association, the "Begehungen" art festival, the Chemnitz Film Workshop, the Siegmar Club Cinema and Radio T. The Saxon Children's and Youth Film Service received an increase in funding for the "Schlingel" festival in order to further professionalise and establish itself both nationally and internationally, while literature and local history associations are also supported with their regular and predominantly volunteer-organised events. The Weltecho, the Kraftwerk and Arthur centres are important cultural and socio-cultural pillars for Chemnitz. Smaller socio-cultural associations, as well as youth cultural programmes and local heritage and heritage preservation organisations, underpin the cultural offerings in Chemnitz.
