Cultural Tourism Forum: Chemnitz 2025 activates tourism service providers
The importance of cultural tourism in the context of a bid to become European Capital of Culture was also demonstrated at the first Cultural Tourism Forum in Chemnitz. At the invitation of project and cultural operations manager Ferenc Csák and CWE Managing Director Sören Uhle, numerous service providers discussed the importance and challenges of the topic on Tuesday.
Stuttgart tourism expert Yvonne Pröbstle and Graz tourism director Dieter Hardt-Stremayr were invited to give keynote speeches. While Yvonne Pröbstle dealt with the theoretical principles and types of cultural tourists, Dieter Hardt-Stremayr, who is also President of European Cities Marketing, spoke about the positive effects of Graz 2003.
Graz wanted to raise its profile at European level, renew its cultural offering, intensify international contacts and redefine the city through culture. Numerous infrastructure projects, which were realised or whose construction was accelerated after many years of discussion, show that this has been successful. For example, the Graz expert pointed out that the Kunsthaus was discussed for 35 years.
In addition, focus groups discussed the messages of the Chemnitz cultural region as a destination, as well as cultural tourism offers and opportunities for cooperation between culture and tourism.
The forum is a further step in Chemnitz's application process, in addition to the consistent involvement of a wide range of target groups that are relevant in identifying the key issues. A second forum will take place in spring 2018.
