Cross-connection on Mühlenstraße completed
On Monday, 1 July, the cross-connection in the area on Vordere Mühlenstraße was completed.
The cross-connection is part of the route of the Capital of Culture Route between Chemnitz Central Station and the Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture Visitor and Information Centre in the Hartmannfabrik.
During the construction project, a new path for pedestrians and cyclists was built in the area of Mühlenstraße between house numbers 4 and 2 (Fritz-Heckert-Haus). In the centre area, a recreation area and a connection to the "Heck-Art" restaurant and the former forum were created.
The old concrete slabs were demolished, the seating area redesigned, the green areas enlarged and the steps to the forum renovated. The pedestrian and cycle path has been redesigned with a walkway made of 12-centimetre-thick yellowish concrete slabs.
Construction work began on 2 May. The company Asphalt-Bau Chemnitz Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH from Bernsdorf was commissioned to carry out the work.
The costs for the construction work totalled around 120,000 euros. They are being financed from the City of Chemnitz's own funds as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 programme.
