Crisis of democracy? Results of the Saxony Monitor 2023

On Tuesday, 16 April, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., interested parties are invited to an event on the topic "Crisis of democracy? The results of the Saxony Monitor 2023 in discussion" in the event room at the TIETZ. Prof Dr Susanne Rippl, member of the advisory board for the Saxony Monitor survey, heads the Department of Political Sociology at Chemnitz University of Technology. She will present the results of the Saxony Monitor. How can they be compared and discussed? And where - also in the Chemnitz region - are there approaches to strengthening democracy?

The latest Saxony Monitor was published in January 2024. In the survey commissioned by the Saxon state government, citizens were asked in autumn 2023 about their assessment of the social situation, their expectations for the future and their political observations. While respondents were largely optimistic about their personal future, even in the face of economic crises, their concerns about the social situation have increased. Current issues include economic development, migration and integration, education and healthcare. The study once again reveals a loss of trust in politicians, the media, political institutions, the government and political parties. Dissatisfaction with democracy is increasing, resentment towards migrants, Jews and the unemployed is growing and conspiracy theories are becoming more popular.
The event is a cooperation between the Department of Political Sociology at Chemnitz University of Technology, the Crime Prevention Council of the City of Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
