Councillors vote in favour of energy recovery of biowaste
At its meeting today, the city council decided in favour of the energy recovery of biowaste in Chemnitz. However, the councillors rejected the construction of a biowaste fermentation plant in the Furth district by the waste disposal and municipal cleaning company of the city of Chemnitz (ASR).
Based on these decisions, the ASR will carry out a public procurement procedure for the energy recovery of Chemnitz biowaste in cooperation with the responsible working group consisting of representatives of the city council factions.
The background to the energy recovery of biowaste is the climate protection goals of the city of Chemnitz. These are essentially set out in the integrated climate protection concept and in the energy policy work programme as part of participation in the European Energy Award. This means that up to 5,700 tonnes ofCO2 can be saved per year through the energy recovery of Chemnitz's biowaste.
