Council of Elders currently meets weekly
Due to the current coronavirus situation, no committee meetings are currently taking place. For this reason, the Council of Elders has been meeting every Monday since last week. The Council of Elders is made up of the Lord Mayor and the chairpersons of all political groups represented on the City Council. The mayors are permanent guests.
It is important for the parliamentary group chairmen to gain a direct impression of the situation in Chemnitz. The head of the health department therefore presents the current situation and answers the questions of the parliamentary group chairmen.
The parliamentary group chairmen take the opportunity to coordinate directly with the Lord Mayor and the mayors on important topics, ask their questions and share their assessments.
In these difficult times for citizens, it is important for the group chairmen to continue to be involved in the city's decision-making processes.
The meetings of the Council of Elders, which were organised as a conference call today, will take place on a weekly basis. On the Tuesday after Easter, a joint decision will be made on when the next city council meeting will be convened. The group chairmen agree that only agenda items relating to the extraordinary situation or requiring decisions that cannot be postponed should be discussed by the City Council.
