"Cosmos Chemnitz - Capital of Culture 2025: Anything is possible?"

Panel discussion with guests from Pilsen and Timisoara at the Stadtbad Chemnitz

On Tuesday, 13 December 2016 at 6 p.m., the municipal theatres and the Kulturbetrieb invite the people of Chemnitz to a panel discussion on the potential of the Capital of Culture in the Stadtbad, conference room in the upper foyer. The guests are Jiří Suchánek and Dr Simona Neumann, speakers from former and future Capitals of Culture. They will share their experiences and discuss the pros and cons of Chemnitz as a Capital of Culture with Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, Head of Cultural Operations Ferenc Csák, General Director Dr Christoph Dittrich and the audience. Admission is free.

The Czech city of Pilsen was European Capital of Culture in 2015. Jiří Suchánek was responsible for the realisation of the Capital of Culture in 2015 as Director of the Pilsen Public Benefit Society. Preparations for the programme took around seven years in total. Hundreds of contributors, local and foreign partners and institutions were involved. Hundreds of thousands of tourists flocked to Pilsen. On the internet, the Pilsen 2015 non-profit organisation concludes: "The renowned European brand, which a number of cities have been vying for for several years, has had the expected positive effects." Why? He explains this to the people of Chemnitz at the Stadtbad.

The Romanian city of Timisoara will be the European Capital of Culture in 2021. This was announced by the European Union in September of this year. Dr Simona Neumann is the Director of the European Capital of Culture 2021 and on 13 December in Chemnitz, she will be able to report first-hand on what it means to apply for the title, how the application phase went in Timisoara and how the city managed to convince the jury.

The discussion will be moderated by Ellen Schweda, who has been working as an author, presenter and speaker for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk since 2005.

At the end of the event, guests will have the opportunity to exchange and deepen their thoughts, ideas and impressions of the evening at a get-together in front of the Bauhaus backdrop of the Stadtbad.
