Coordination begins on the selection of the future light colour for LED street lighting
Modernisation of city lighting: focus on LED luminaires for new investments - annual replacement of up to 1,000 lighting points planned (Joint press release by the City of Chemnitz and Eins)
In cooperation with the city of Chemnitz, eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG, the owner and operator of Chemnitz's city lighting, has installed a sample LED street lighting system consisting of twelve light points in the city centre at Getreidemarkt in recent weeks. Chemnitz residents have until 31 January 2017 to choose the luminaires with their preferred light colour. The focus is exclusively on the perception of the light colours, not the luminaire models.
The background to this is the future city-wide modernisation of luminaires with a mounting height of up to 7 m using efficient LED technology. This will lead to significant savings in energy and carbon dioxide consumption.
How to get involved
It is possible to take part in the online voting on the homepage of the city of Chemnitz or the homepage of eins energie. This also allows you to make your personal selection on site using your smartphone. Alternatively, a coupon can be found in the official gazette published on Wednesday, which can be completed and sent to the City of Chemnitz.
The results will be analysed in February 2017 and then presented. The choice made by Chemnitz residents will be one of the criteria used in the future decision on the choice of light colour for street lighting systems.
Background to the changeover of city lighting
In August, the city council approved the concept for modernising Chemnitz's city lighting. According to this concept, LED lights will be used for all planned new investments and replacement lighting systems. In addition, between 800 and 1,000 lights are to be replaced each year between 2016 and 2018 and equipped with modern LED technology. Thereafter, it is planned to review the programme and adapt it to technical developments if necessary.
