Coordinated Zietenstrasse construction project begins
Zietenstraße between Augustusburger Straße and Jakobstraße fully closed from 14 November
On Monday, 14 November, work will begin on Zietenstraße, a coordinated construction project by the traffic and civil engineering department, the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz (ESC) and eins/inetz. For this purpose, Zietenstraße between Augustusburger Straße and Sonnenstraße will be fully closed to vehicle traffic in sections.
In order to minimise disruption for local residents, the work will be carried out in four sections. Work will begin in the area from Augustusburger Straße to Jakobstraße (including the Zietenstraße/Jakobstraße junction).
Traffic will be routed in both directions via Augustusburger Straße, Yorckstraße and Fürstenstraße.
In the first section, the Augustusburger Straße/Zietenstraße junction will also be closed on both sides for media crossings for around two months. Traffic will be guided past the construction site by traffic lights. Pedestrian traffic will be guaranteed at all times. Access to neighbouring properties is possible with restrictions.
In May 2022, Chemnitz City Council decided to renovate Zietenstraße between Augustusburger and Sonnenstraße as a coordinated construction project. The extensive work will be carried out in four construction phases between 14 November 2022 and 30 September 2024.
In Zietenstrasse, inetz/eins and ESC will be replacing the district heating pipes, gas and water pipes, electricity systems including the city lighting and the sewer. The carriageway and the sides of the road will be almost completely dug up for these complex pipe installations.
The road will then be completely renewed over a length of approx. 290 metres by the City of Chemnitz. The ESC is coordinating the entire project.
Together, eins energie, the ESC and the civil engineering department of the city of Chemnitz are investing around 3.3 million euros.
