Coordinated Lohrstrasse construction project begins

This week sees the start of extensive construction work on the Lohrstraße construction project. Work will initially begin at the Blankenauer Straße junction and on the section from Blankenauer Straße to Wilhelm-Külz-Platz, which is due to be completed by the end of this year. The section from Further Straße to Blankenauer Straße will then follow in 2025.

The plan is to thoroughly upgrade all traffic areas in the intersection and road area, renovate the sewerage system, connect the district heating system and renew the drinking water pipes and street lighting in sections. This is a coordinated construction project by the City of Chemnitz's traffic and civil engineering department, the waste disposal company of the City of Chemnitz (ESC) and the utility company eins.

The safety closure at the building at Zöllnerplatz 19, which is in danger of collapsing, remains in place. A temporary bypass, which will be set up out of town and will remain in place until the end of May 2024, will enable alternating work on the Blankenauer Straße junction.

The section from Blankenauer Straße to Wilhelm-Külz-Platz must be fully closed to traffic from the start of construction until the end of 2024. Unfortunately, the public car parking spaces will not be available during the construction work. Pedestrians will be guided safely past the construction site at all times. Access to neighbouring properties is guaranteed at all times.
The construction company and the City of Chemnitz are endeavouring to keep disruption to all residents to a minimum.

The total construction costs amount to approx. 2.15 million euros. The share of road construction amounts to around 1.5 million euros. The company ATS Chemnitz Asphalt-, Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH from Chemnitz was commissioned to carry out the construction work.
