Coordinated construction project: Remodelling Martinstrasse
On Monday, 12 April, extensive construction work will begin on the ground-up expansion of Martinstraße between Augustusburger Straße and Jakobstraße. In addition, the street lighting will be modernised and the existing combined sewers between Augustusburger Straße and Körnerstraße will be renewed. This is a coordinated construction project involving the civil engineering department, the waste disposal company (ESC) and the utility company eins energie. The construction work is scheduled for completion in June 2022.
The civil engineering department is planning to extend Martinstraße from Augustusburger Straße up to and including the Jakobstraße junction and restore the adjacent pavements. The road width will be reduced to 5.70 metres. On the side of the new primary school on Jakobstraße, a spacious pavement area will be created together with planting areas, deciduous trees and furnishing elements. In addition, the utility company eins energie will install four new street lights in this section.
The waste disposal company is renewing the combined sewer in Martinstraße. It will be laid by cut-and-cover over a total length of approx. 370 metres. In addition, sewer construction work will be carried out from Jakobstraße to Körnerstraße. Here, in addition to the sewer construction by the ESC, the road drainage systems will also be renewed by the civil engineering department.
Martinstraße between Augustusburger Straße and Jakobstraße must be fully closed to traffic. The diversion will be via Jakobstraße and Zietenstraße. Access to neighbouring properties will be ensured during the construction work. Pedestrian traffic will also be diverted past the construction site in the further sewer construction section up to Körnerstraße and access to neighbouring properties will be ensured. During the asphalt work at the Jakobstraße junction, which will be fully closed, an access road will be created onto Sonnenstraße next to the multi-storey car park.
The total construction costs amount to approx. 1.4 million euros. The road construction portion amounts to around 600,000 euros. This is being financed by urban development funds from the federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz.
The company Krause & Co. Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH from Neukirchen has been commissioned to carry out the construction work.
