Cooperation between ASR and charitable used clothing collectors
Yesterday, the city council approved the concept for the collection of clothing and textiles in cooperation between the ASR and the non-profit organisations active in this field in Chemnitz (B-047/2014). The DRK district associations for the city of Chemnitz and the Chemnitz surrounding area, Malteser Hilfsdienst and Johanniter Unfallhilfe are involved in this cooperation.
The concept guarantees an easily accessible disposal facility for used textiles and shoes for all citizens. At the same time, the neighbourhood will be made more attractive and order and cleanliness will be ensured. In future, the containers of the charitable used clothing collectors and the orange-coloured bins of the ASR will be concentrated exclusively at the existing depot container sites. Of the 365 locations, 245 will be equipped with collection containers for clothing, textiles and shoes. 80 sites are available to charitable organisations. The ASR's used textile containers are already located at the remaining 165 sites. The containers are labelled to show who is responsible for the collection, so that users can see who they are sending their used textiles and shoes to. Clothing in good condition can also be handed in directly to a clothing centre. The collection results of the charitable organisations directly benefit people in need in the city of Chemnitz (e.g. via clothing stores) or are used for social projects in the city of Chemnitz via the proceeds generated from the recycling. The proceeds generated by the ASR from the recycling of used textiles and shoes flow 100 per cent into the calculation of fees as a contribution towards the costs of public waste disposal. They therefore make a significant contribution to the stabilisation of waste disposal fees.
As the sole point of contact, the ASR ensures that any waste deposited in public areas is removed promptly and that safety is guaranteed.
