Conversation with cultural experts Navid Kermani and Prof Michael Brenner

The Adult Education Centre invites you to a discussion between Navid Kermani and Prof. Michael Brenner on Thursday, 27 May from 7.30 to 9 pm. In their discussion, they will reflect on German-Jewish intellectual history based on the present, but also on the Orient as a common cultural space for Jews, Muslims and Arab Christians, which is now more endangered than ever. Participation is free of charge.

In their works, Michael Brenner and Navid Kermani have repeatedly dealt with the Jewish history of Germany, the Jewish-Islamic roots of the European Enlightenment and the cultures of the Middle East, one as a professor of Jewish history and culture in Munich, the other as a writer and orientalist. In 2017, at Brenner's invitation, Kermani gave a highly acclaimed speech on "The Future of Remembrance" of the Shoah in the Great Hall of the University of Munich.
Navid Kermani is a freelance writer and habilitated orientalist. He is a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry and the Hamburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He has received numerous awards for his academic and literary work, including the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and most recently the Buber-Rosenzweig Medal. Michael Brenner is Professor of Jewish History and Culture at the LMU Munich. He is a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
