We live in angry times: Hate comments, lies and hate speech are replacing factual comments online. The digital debate has become radicalised and a respectful exchange seems impossible.
In her book "Hass im Netz", author Ingrid Brodnig uncovers the mechanisms that make it easy for trolls on the internet. She shows the tricks used by falsifiers who deliberately spread falsehoods and the rhetoric used by hate groups to escalate discussions.
She provides concrete tips and strategies to prevent online aggression from rendering you speechless: How can you respond to offensive rhetoric, trolling or shitstorms? How can you expose false reports or half-truths as quickly as possible? What should you do if you are confronted with cyberbullying online? Because: We are not helplessly at the mercy of bullies, agitators and hate groups - it is not that difficult to fight back.
Ingrid Brodnig studied journalism and corporate communications and has been editor of the Austrian news magazine "Profil" since 2015. She has received numerous awards and prizes for her journalistic work.
