Contributors wanted for Intercultural Weeks 2018

Opening event on 22 September

The Intercultural Weeks will once again take place in Chemnitz from 22 September to 3 October 2018. During the two weeks, citizens, clubs, associations, institutions and organisations are invited to find out more about the topics of migration, integration and asylum and to take advantage of offers for tolerant and peaceful coexistence. Under the motto "Diversity unites - in history, in the present and in the future", the Intercultural Weeks will open on 22 September 2018 at 12 noon on the Neumarkt in Chemnitz.

In eight different themed areas - based on the 875th anniversary of the city of Chemnitz with historical designations - guests will be warmly welcomed to Neumarkt, Richard-Möbius-Straße and Düsseldorfer Platz with a colourful programme and lots of information on the topic of immigration in the past, present and future. The themes are as follows: Artarium, Informarium, Culinarium, Legendarium, Sportatrium, Szenarium, Theatrum, Vokalbularium.

The opening event will be organised by the city's migration officer, Etelka Kobuß, in close cooperation with the Migration Advisory Council, the Social Welfare Office, the AGIUA Migration Social and Youth Work Association, the Lila Villa Women's Centre in the akCente e. V. association, the Turkish Cultural Association Chemnitz e. V., UKROP e. V., the Sinjini Indian Dance Group Chemnitz, SSV Textima and the Chemnitz City Sports Association.

In the following two weeks, theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and author talks, training courses, lectures, workshops and information events on various topics as well as exchanges between religions are intended to arouse interest in people and encounters. The diversity of the city of Chemnitz should also be reflected in the variety of events on offer.

Anyone who would like to participate in the opening and the following two-week series of events with their own programmes can contact the municipal migration officer. Sponsorship offers and other forms of participation in the work are also welcome. The registration deadlines can be found on the relevant forms, which are now available at www.chemnitz.de.
