Contracting agreement: service provider renews systems and guarantees energy savings in municipal theatre buildings
The City of Chemnitz and Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH will conclude an energy-saving guarantee contract with WISAG Energiemanagement GmbH & Co KG (contractor). The city council today instructed the administration and the theatre's shareholder representative to do so.
The underlying so-called energy-saving contracting is an instrument frequently used in the public sector to tap into potential energy savings.
The contractor is investing 930,400 euros in new, energy-efficient systems in the opera house and theatre. The aim is to reduce district heating consumption by 35 per cent and electricity consumption by 32 per cent. In addition, the buildings will use 38 per cent less district cooling and 23 per cent less water. The contractor guarantees a 33.4 per cent reduction in energy costs compared to 2013 (at least 121,700 euros).
The Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH will pay 135,000 euros per year for the investment and operation of the new technology. The annual payment not only covers the replacement of the technology, which immediately becomes the property of Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH. Rather, the contractor also takes over the maintenance of the technology for the entire term of the contract without any further remuneration. Savings that exceed the contractual guarantee are shared by both contractual partners. The risk that the savings do not materialise to the guaranteed extent lies entirely with WISAG.
The new systems are to be installed during the next match break in summer 2014. The contract term is eleven years, starting on 1 January 2015.
