Contract awarded for the development of the master plan for Chemnitz Zoo
Pluswerte GmbH has been awarded the contract for the development of an architectural masterplan for Chemnitz Zoo with a net order volume of 49,000 euros. A total of five providers from all over Germany took part in the tender. In addition to the price, the criteria for selection included proof of professional suitability and expertise in the creation of master plans for German zoos and references for strategic consulting on business organisation, operating form, financing options and the development of key business figures.
In December 2014, the city council of Chemnitz approved a development concept for the zoo as a framework for action. With the involvement of external experts and the "Tierpark" working group, consisting of representatives of the city administration and the city council, the concept is being updated and a more far-reaching vision for the future is being developed. The aim is to secure the long-term existence of Chemnitz Zoo for the population. For this reason, considerable investment will be necessary in the coming years to adapt to current visitor requirements and to continue modern and attractive animal husbandry.
Ideas and a basic design concept have already been developed on the basis of these strategic considerations. This will serve as a framework for the development of an architectural masterplan, which will analyse individual measures in more detail and determine the basis for planning. From this, a cost estimate for the entire development measure will be drawn up, the implementation will be divided into individual sensible construction phases and timed, and a visualisation will be produced.
A business plan will be developed on the basis of the masterplan and a financing concept derived. In addition, various forms of operation will be conceptually analysed with regard to the advantages and disadvantages of the future further development and implementation of the strategic business concept for the zoo and recommendations for action will be derived from this.
Chemnitz Zoo
Chemnitz Zoo, opened in 1964 as a home animal park, offers interesting insights into the lives of around 1,000 animal individuals of almost 200 species throughout the year on an area of around ten hectares. The Oberrabenstein Wildlife Park has also been part of Chemnitz Zoo since 1995. Around 15 European animal species are kept in the 35-hectare wildlife enclosure.
With around 150,000 visitors per year, Chemnitz Zoo is one of the city's most important cultural and leisure facilities and an important location factor for a family-friendly and touristically attractive city.
