Supervisory Board of Klinikum Chemnitz appoints former Managing Director Dirk Balster as interim head until the middle of next year

The Supervisory Board of Chemnitz Hospital held an extraordinary meeting today to discuss how to proceed following the unexpected death of Managing Director Dr Thomas Jendges.

After intensive discussion, the Board unanimously decided in this unusual situation to ask the former long-standing Managing Director of the hospital, Dirk Balster, to take over the management again until the middle of next year.

"Especially in these challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic, the hospital needs an experienced leader at the helm," said Supervisory Board Chairman and Lord Mayor Sven Schulze. He thanked Dirk Balster for his willingness to support the hospital and the city in this endeavour.

The Supervisory Board has set up a personnel search committee with representatives of employers and employees to fill the post in the long term, with the aim of initiating this process as quickly as possible.

The committee believes that the hospital is currently fully capable of acting, as the extended management team with the authorised signatories, the nursing management and the medical director Prof. Dr med. habil. Ralf Steinmeier is very well positioned.
