On Wednesday, 4 March, the day before the Chemnitz Peace Day, at 3 pm, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze Chemnitzer is once again inviting contemporary witnesses to a meeting at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof, Straumer Saal.
Representatives of the media are also invited.
64 Chemnitz residents who lived through the Second World War in Chemnitz and their companions (28 people) accept the invitation. They will talk about their childhood memories of 5 March 1945. A total of 29 pupils and three teachers from three Chemnitz schools - the Gruuna School, the Montessori School and the Schönau Secondary School - will also be present. They will be able to talk to the contemporary witnesses and gain an authentic insight into the events of the time. The experiences of the Chemnitz witnesses of 5 March 1945 can thus be preserved and passed on to future generations.
Chemnitz Peace Day
On Thursday, 5 March, Chemnitz will commemorate the destruction of the city during the Second World War with the 25th Chemnitz Peace Day under the title "Staying Peaceful" and set an example for peace, democracy and social cohesion. Under the guiding principle of active remembrance, the Chemnitz Peace Day working group and the City of Chemnitz, together with numerous initiatives, associations, churches, educational institutions and committed citizens, invite you to a diverse programme.
