Contemporary witnesses of 5 March 1945 meet

Invitation for journalists: on 4 March, 3 pm, Chemnitzer Hof

On Tuesday, 4 March, the day before the Chemnitz Peace Day, at 3 pm, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze Chemnitz is once again inviting contemporary witnesses to a meeting at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof, Straumer Saal.
54 Chemnitz residents who lived through the Second World War in Chemnitz and their companions (22 people) have accepted the invitation. They will talk about their childhood memories of 5 March 1945 and share their experiences with other guests.
A total of 31 pupils and three teachers from two Chemnitz schools - the Gruuna School and the Schönau Secondary School - who have also been invited, want to talk to the contemporary witnesses and gain an authentic insight into the events of that time. The experiences of the Chemnitz witnesses of 5 March 1945 can thus be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Representatives of the media are also invited to attend.
Important note: You are welcome to attend the meeting and follow the discussions. However, individual interviews with the contemporary witnesses and guests will only be possible at the end of the event around 5 pm.

Chemnitz Peace Day
On 5 March, Chemnitz Peace Day commemorates the bombing of the city 80 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year on this day, thousands of people from Chemnitz take a stand for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and xenophobia.
