Contemporary witnesses meet on the eve of the Peace Day

Call for participation on 4 March, 3 p.m., Hotel Chemnitzer Hof

On 5 March, as every year, the city of Chemnitz commemorates the bombing and destruction of the city in 1945, the victims of the Second World War and the victims of wars around the world with events and campaigns. On the day before the Chemnitz Peace Day, on Tuesday 4 March at 3 pm, Mayor Sven Schulze is once again inviting schoolchildren and contemporary witnesses to an intergenerational meeting at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof.

Chemnitz residents who lived through the Second World War in Chemnitz and would like to share their childhood memories of 5 March 1945 at the eyewitness meeting are invited to register by 14 February. Anyone interested can send their memories by post to the City of Chemnitz, GB 9.1, Markt 1, 09111 Chemnitz or by email to: protokoll(at)stadt-chemnitz.de, quoting the keyword "Friedenstag". Contact details will also be accepted by telephone on the public authority service number 0371 115. The mail will be treated confidentially and only published after consultation.

Pupils from various schools in the city area will be present to provide an exchange between the generations and an authentic insight into the events.
