On Wednesday, 4 March, from 3 p.m., Lord Mayor Sven Schulze is once again inviting contemporary witnesses to an intergenerational exchange at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof. The meeting will take place on the day before the Chemnitz Peace Day, on which the city of Chemnitz, together with many committed partners, commemorates the bombing and destruction of the city in 1945 as well as the victims of the Second World War and the victims of wars around the world with events and campaigns, as it does every year.
At the contemporary witness meeting, people who experienced the Second World War in Chemnitz and who would like to talk about their childhood memories of 5 March 1945, as well as schoolchildren, come together, exchange ideas and listen to each other. The dialogue between the generations is intended to make historical events tangible and raise awareness of the consequences of war and the importance of peace and democracy.
