Contaminated football pitch requires dismantling
The "Herzogshöhe" football pitch in Wittgensdorf must be permanently closed due to the presence of old deposits close to the surface.
The decision was made on the basis of an expert opinion prepared by the Parks Department on behalf of the Saxony State Directorate in order to avoid endangering children and young people playing there. The football pitch has been at this location for many years. In the meantime, deposits (so-called landfill) have come to the surface.
The hazard potential of the old deposits is extremely low when walked on normally, but contact with surface material, which cannot be ruled out when playing football, should be avoided.
The neighbouring playground is NOT affected by the contamination and the closure.
As a future alternative to the "Herzogshöhe" football pitch, which according to the playground concept is scheduled for demolition anyway, the medium-term organisation of a new football pitch, e.g. in the area of the Wittgensdorfer Bräuteich pond, is being examined.
