At today's City Council meeting, the City of Chemnitz provided information about the planned construction work on the main road network in 2026 in an information document. The aim is to present construction processes transparently.
The basis for this is continuous coordination of the planned civil engineering measures. In regular consultations, the City of Chemnitz coordinates upcoming construction projects together with utility companies such as eins/inetz, Entsorgungsbetrieb der Stadt Chemnitz (ESC) and Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG). Both short-term and medium-term plans are brought together and joint measures are coordinated. This close cooperation forms the basis for forward-looking construction site planning for the coming years.
For the year 2026, the planned measures in the main road network were already systematically recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025 and assessed in terms of their impact on traffic. In addition to local partners, supra-regional stakeholders such as Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen, Deutsche Bahn AG and the relevant state and federal authorities were also involved. The aim is to avoid overlapping roadworks, plan diversions sensibly and ensure efficient alternative routes.
Construction work on the main road network in 2026 will focus on Annaberger Straße, the B4 motorway, Bahnhofstraße, Brückenstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße, Falkeplatz, Mühlenstraße and Theaterstraße, among others. Extensive measures and traffic restrictions are to be expected in these sections.
The list of measures on which the information is based comprises a total of more than 80 individual projects throughout the city. These include extensive road, sewer and pipeline construction measures, bridge repairs and carriageway renewals.
Some of the projects involve partial road closures, e.g. on Annaberger Straße, Clausstraße, Dittersdorfer Straße or Zwickauer Straße. At the same time, numerous measures are being implemented in sections to ensure the accessibility of city districts.
Multi-year projects, such as in the Falkeplatz, Theaterstraße and Jagdschänkenstraße areas, will continue beyond 2026 and be included in the coordination accordingly. The coordination of construction sites will be continuously refined over the course of the year.
All approved construction sites will be published transparently in the construction site atlas at www.chemnitz.de/baustelleninfo so that citizens can find out about current restrictions at any time.
