Construction work on the Chemnitz railway arch
Full closure of Reichenhainer Straße/Südbahnhof from 11 to 15 May
The new construction of the railway bridge on Reichenhainer Straße/Südbahnhof is entering another construction phase. The construction phase was originally planned for a fortnight in June. The earlier deadline of now only five days was justified by DB AG with technological processes and the unconditional commissioning of the first new track section in November 2020.
From Monday 11 May, Reichenhainer Straße will be fully closed between Südbahnstraße and the roundabout. The diversion will run inland via Bernsbachplatz, Bernsdorfer Straße, Lutherstraße, Fraunhoferstraße and towards the city centre via Altchemnitzer Straße, Lothringer Straße, Annaberger Straße Gustav-Freytag-Straße.
From Tuesday, 12 May, 5 a.m. to Wednesday, 13 May, 6 a.m., the fully closed area on Reichenhainer Straße will be extended up to and including the Altchemnitzer Straße roundabout.
During this time, traffic on Altchemnitzer Straße will be routed towards the city centre via Lothringer Straße and Annaberger Straße. Traffic on Fraunhofer Straße will be diverted via Lutherstraße, Zschopauer Straße and Ritterstraße. The diversion will be extended inland via Fraunhoferstraße and Südring to Annaberger Straße.
Due to the simultaneous traffic restrictions on Annaberger Straße, Zschopauer Straße and Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße, the surrounding main network is overloaded at peak times, so there is a risk of traffic jams. CVAG will provide its own information on bus services.
Construction schedule:
Monday, 11 May: The closure of Reichenhainer Straße between the junction with Gustav-Freytag-Straße and before the Reichenhainer Straße roundabout will begin at 7 a.m. for setting up areas for low-loader girder transport, preparing the shoring and setting up the mobile crane for the girder lift.
Tuesday, 12 May: From 5 a.m. extension of the Reichenhainer Straße closure area with additional full closure of the Reichenhainer Straße roundabout for lifting and assembly of the bridge girders, parallel attachment of cantilever formwork to edge girders prior to lifting.
Wednesday, 13 May: Reichenhainer Straße roundabout open from 6 a.m., closure of Reichenhainer Straße remains in place for work on the shoring, working/protective scaffolding, cantilever formwork etc. in the area between Südbahnstraße and up to before the roundabout.
Thursday, 14 May: Full closure of Reichenhainer Straße continues in the construction area between Südbahnstraße and up to before the roundabout for work on shoring, working/protective scaffolding, cantilever formwork, etc.
Friday, 15 May: Continued full closure of Reichenhainer Straße in the construction area of the railway bridge between Südbahnstraße and up to before the roundabout for work on shoring, working/protective scaffolding, cantilever formwork, etc.
Reichenhainer Straße will be reopened at around 6 p.m. and the previous closure status of Reichenhainer Straße will apply with two lanes free and pedestrians.
