Construction work on Limbacher Strasse and Waldenburger Strasse
Construction of a new centre island and conversion of bus stops on Limbacher Straße and new construction of the Waldenburger Straße / Am Heim bus stop (towards the city centre)
In order to implement the local transport plan of the city of Chemnitz, the new bus stop Waldenburger Straße / Am Heim will be built in the coming weeks in the direction of the city centre. The new bus stop will be built at the level of the current car park.
Once the existing kerbs have been dismantled, the bus stop area will be fundamentally extended. The new kerb system and new tactile, i.e. visually and haptically perceptible, surfaces in the pavement area will enable passengers to use public transport without barriers in future.
As the existing car park has to make way for the new stop, parking facilities will be built to the south of the stop as a replacement.
As part of the construction work, the "Waldenburger Straße" bus stops on Limbacher Straße will also be made barrier-free. To this end, the tactile surfaces in the pavement area will be renewed and the bus stop areas will be surfaced with a semi-rigid surface layer.
During the autumn holidays, a central island for pedestrians will also be created on Limbacher Straße near the Chamber of Crafts training centre. This is intended to eliminate an accident blackspot. In this context, the existing footpath in the direction of the Chamber of Crafts training centre will also be widened to a width of 2.40 metres.
All work will be carried out without disrupting traffic, but road users, pedestrians and neighbours will have to put up with temporary restrictions.
Construction will begin on 24/08/2015 and is scheduled for completion by 30/10/2015. The construction costs amount to approx. 125,000 euros. As part of the funding for municipal road and bridge construction, the Free State is contributing approx. 35,000 euros to this measure.
The Schmidt-Bau company from Augustusburg was commissioned to carry out the construction work.
