Construction work on Chemnitztalweg begins on Monday

On Monday (2 June), work will begin on the currently closed section of the Chemnitz Valley cycle path to create a temporary pavement between the Fischweg bridge and Bornaer Straße. A 1 to 1.5 metre wide strip of frost protection material will be constructed next to the remaining asphalt area. A railing will be installed in this area for safety. The temporary road is scheduled to be opened on 14 June.

Companies from the framework contracts of the City of Chemnitz Civil Engineering Department have been commissioned with the work. The costs for the construction work and the railings to be installed total approx. 14,000 euros.

The final renewal of the now provisionally paved section of the Chemnitz Valley cycle path is expected to start in mid-November 2014. Until then, the plans for the construction of a modified embankment reinforcement and the public tender are in progress.

The Civil Engineering Office asks that construction work is not hindered by unauthorised use of the closed section. The signage in accordance with the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) on site still indicates the closed section as closed. This must continue to be observed in the interests of safety.
