Construction work in the city archive building

Restrictions possible from 22 August to 16 September

From 22 August to probably 16 September 2016, extensive construction work will take place in the City Archive building at Aue 16. This will mainly affect the storerooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The lecture evening on 14 September will take place as planned.

The security systems need to be adapted to meet the requirements of the insurer. The costs for the entire project amount to around 70,000 euros.

The work will cause disruption for users. Noise pollution cannot be avoided. Due to the work in the stacks, large parts of the holdings will not be accessible and cannot be viewed during this period.

This applies in particular to

  • the documents of the city council up to 1928 and 1945 to 1990
  • the archive of the Association for Chemnitz History,
  • the records of the incorporated suburbs,
  • the documents for the area of people search,
  • parts of the estates, the poster collection, the collections on the history of sport and the allotment gardens

There are longer processing times for the personal search area, e.g. for information from civil registers. The finding aids, reading films, the library, the image and plan archive and parts of the estates can still be used.

The city archive asks its users and guests for their understanding.

Information on how to use the archive will of course be provided.
