Construction work at schools during the holiday period

Various construction measures are also being carried out at Chemnitz schools during the summer holidays:

Georg-Götz-Förderschule sports hall
The sports hall has been completely renovated and will be reopened at the start of the school year. The construction costs for this amount to around 1 million euros.

Upper/lower Luisen School
The barrier-free extension of the two Luisen schools is currently underway. The work is scheduled to be completed in October 2018. A total of 1.4 million euros will be spent on the two locations.

Music school
The courtyard and gable façade of the music school is currently being renovated and barrier-free access is being created. The work will be completed in October 2018. Cost: around half a million euros.

Glösa primary school
The primary school is currently being expanded with an extension. The work on and in the school building will be completed by the end of the year and is estimated to cost 3.3 million euros.

Reichenhain primary school
The school building is currently being renovated at a cost of 2.6 million euros. In particular, accessibility is being created and rooms are being optimised (including a new dining hall). The refurbishment will be completed by October 2019.

Harthau primary school
The primary school has been undergoing refurbishment since June of this year. Among other things, the measure will return the neighbouring building to school use, create a connecting building and eliminate the backlog of renovation work on the school building. The costs amount to 2.2 million euros. Construction is due to be completed at the end of 2019.

Klaffenbach primary school
The project, which has been ongoing since October 2017, involves the construction of a second structural escape route at the primary school and the implementation of various fire safety measures. The work will continue until the end of 2018 and is currently estimated at 0.75 million euros.

Valentina Tereshkova Primary School
The primary school playground is currently being renovated. The renovation of the area should be completed by the end of August. The planting work will follow. The costs amount to around 0.3 million euros.

Jan Amos Comenius Primary School
The 3rd floor of the primary school is currently being extended and developed for school use. The new rooms will be ready for use at the start of the new school year. The project will cost just under 1 million euros.

Borna primary school
The site of the former school for the physically disabled will continue to be converted into the future Borna primary school during the summer holidays.

Emanuel Gottlieb Flemming Primary School
The school was completely renovated at a cost of around 6.8 million euros and rebuilt to operate as a four-form entry primary school (previously two-form entry). It will reopen at the start of the new school year. The associated after-school extension will be completed in the autumn.

Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1 secondary school
The building on Arno-Schreiter-Straße has been undergoing refurbishment since July last year in order to make it fit for the requirements as a new secondary school location. The refurbishment will be completed by the end of the summer holidays. The costs for this amount to 1.8 million euros. The inauguration of the school will take place on Monday, 13 August at 8 am.

Arno-Schreiter-Straße sports halls
Along with the school building, construction work on the nearby sports halls will also be completed at the start of the school year. The complete refurbishment of the two gyms will cost 2.1 million euros.

Schönau secondary school
The interior work that began in May of this year will be continued during the summer holidays. The aim of the project is to create more space, particularly in the attic, through remodelling and extension work. The costs are estimated at around 1.1 million euros. Completion is planned for April 2019.

Mittelbach primary school
Construction work to create a second structural escape route and implement further fire safety measures at the school will be completed during the summer holidays. The costs amount to just under 1 million euros. The rear part of the schoolyard will also be renovated during the holidays. A new playing field and trampolines will be built here. The refurbishment of the school playground will continue next year.
