Construction work on the paths in the southern section of the Riedbachtal green corridor has been completed. However, the construction site will remain closed until the trees and shrubs can be planted in the autumn. The City of Chemnitz’s Parks and Green Spaces Department has drawn attention to this.
The reason for this is that, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for the so-called Ostrau path surface, the newly laid paths require a minimum of three weeks to achieve full stability. The principle behind this is entirely natural: through the interaction of residual moisture and the fine minerals in the Ostrau dolomite rock, the grains interlock firmly with one another. In this resting phase, the path thus solidifies of its own accord – without any artificial binding agents.
It has not yet been specifically determined when the commissioned trees and shrubs can be planted. Delivery from the tree nursery depends on when the plants themselves enter their winter dormancy and can therefore be transplanted. This will be at the earliest in early November.
