Construction progress of the overall Neefestraße project
Demolition work on the bridge structure from 26 to 28 August
The next three construction phases on Neefestraße will begin on Friday, 25 August: the southern bridge section will be renewed, the city-bound one-way lane will be extended and the city-bound carriageway will be renewed up to the Südring.
Some traffic routing will also be adjusted from this point onwards: The currently closed motorway exit of the A72 "Chemnitz Süd" coming from Hof in the direction of the city centre and the temporary city-side access road to Neefepark will be reopened to traffic. The temporary bus stop Pasteurstraße has been set up for public bus transport on Neefestraße.
Traffic on Neefestraße coming from Grüna and Mittelbach in the direction of the city centre will continue to be diverted via Zwickauer Straße.
Visitors and customers of Neefepark are advised to use the additional access and exit via Tuchschererstraße. The access road to Tuchschererstraße (in Neefepark) will be widened so that a straight ahead lane towards Ikea and a separate right turn lane into Tuchschererstraße can be provided. Access is signposted in Neefepark.
There will be additional traffic restrictions from Saturday, 26 August, 6 p.m. up to and including Monday, 28 August, due to the demolition work on the southern bridge structure. During this period, the passage under the bridge access to Neefepark will be fully closed to all road users. Diversions will be signposted accordingly.
Neefestraße, an important and heavily used traffic infrastructure, will be repaired and renewed in order to improve traffic safety and accessibility. Over the entire construction period, 15 different traffic management phases will be set up during the construction work. Information on this will be provided on an ongoing basis.
The company Hoch- und Tiefbau Reichenbach GmbH has been commissioned to carry out the work on the entire Neefestraße project. The construction volume amounts to around 9.7 million euros. The work should be completed by the end of November 2024, in time for the Capital of Culture year in Chemnitz.
The project is being subsidised with grants from the Free State of Saxony amounting to around 5.7 million euros, as this is a measure of particular interest to the state.
