Construction of a pedestrian and cycle crossing at the Leipziger Straße / Matthesstraße junction
By the end of November 2015, a central island will be built in this area on Leipziger Straße and the adjacent pavement areas will be renewed. In addition, an on-demand traffic light system for pedestrians and cyclists will be installed. In Matthesstraße between Leipziger Straße and the climbing hall, a cycle traffic guidance system is still planned to ensure safe access to the new crossing point.
There will be traffic restrictions during the construction work. At least one lane will be maintained on Leipziger Straße in both the city and country directions, and Matthesstraße will temporarily become a one-way street.
The construction costs amount to around 140,000 euros. This project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of 75% as part of the funding programme for municipal road and bridge construction.
Faber Bau GmbH from Drebach was commissioned to carry out the construction work.
