Construction cost increases for several projects

Shifts in the budget ensure balance

The City of Chemnitz is experiencing significant increases in construction costs for several building projects due to the high capacity utilisation in the construction industry. No tender can currently be awarded within the planned framework. In total, the additional costs amount to around
31 million euros.

This applies, for example, to the planned secondary school on Vettersstrasse (+10.8 million euros), the planned secondary school on Hartmannplatz (+5.1 million euros), the new primary school on southern Sonnenberg (+5.7 million euros), the congress extension to the Stadthalle (+2 million euros) and the large gymnasium (+1.5 million euros).

For the city council meeting in September, the city administration will submit several proposals to reallocate and redistribute funds for various construction projects in the school and sports sectors as well as in road civil engineering.

The administration proposes to offset the general cost increases by cancelling measures for good reason. Due to new figures in school development planning, the previously planned construction of a secondary school in the west of Chemnitz and the purchase of mobile classrooms are no longer necessary.

Submitting the motions in September is also intended to prevent a possible halt to the construction of several projects. The corresponding submissions have now been sent to the parliamentary group chairmen so that the city council can decide on them in September.
