Congratulations on your 100th birthday!

Ilse Ehlicke celebrates her "round" birthday on 16 October 2017

Ilse Ehlicke will turn 100 next Monday, 16 October 2017. A representative of the Mayor's Office will be bringing the City of Chemnitz's congratulations to the birthday celebrant at the "Matthias Claudius" care home for the elderly at Max-Schäller-Straße 3 in 09122 Chemnitz.

Ilse Ehlicke, who was born in Bitterfeld, has lived in Chemnitz, the home of her son Horst, for two and a half years. She came here from Bitterfeld with the desire to be close to her family and found her new home in the "Matthias Claudius" care home for the elderly run by the Chemnitz City Mission. Here she receives the support she now needs to cope with everyday life. The friendly senior citizen also enjoys taking advantage of the leisure activities on offer at the facility and looks forward to regular visits from her relatives.

As a young woman, the trained master tailor, who worked in her profession until the war, devoted herself entirely to her family, especially her two children Elke and Horst. After her first husband, with whom she travelled all over Germany, was killed in the war, she married Walter Ehlicke in 1950, who died in 1984. Ilse Ehlicke remembers the past years with pleasure, reliving her childhood and youth with the help of photos.

There will certainly be an opportunity to do so on her birthday when the family gathers in the afternoon to celebrate her.
