Congratulations on your 100th birthday!
Fritz Lehmann celebrates his "round" birthday on 10 July 2017
Fritz Lehmann will turn 100 next Monday, 10 July. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will personally convey the City of Chemnitz's congratulations to the jubilarian at around 10 a.m. at Erich-Mühsam-Straße 6 in 09112 Chemnitz.
Fritz Lehmann, born on 10 July 1917 in Cottbus, came to Chemnitz as a vocational school teacher for chemists. This was a few years after the war, which he himself experienced as a young Wehrmacht soldier, followed by Soviet captivity on the Crimean Peninsula and in the Ukraine. A time that he will probably never forget - the "low point of his life", as he says himself. He returned to Germany in May 1948 and came back to Cottbus, his old home, via Frankfurt (Oder). The career choice he then made in Cottbus determined the rest of his life. As a trained specialised druggist, he embarked on a career as a vocational school teacher for druggists - a fortunate circumstance that led him to meet his future wife Christa, a former pupil, and also brought him to Chemnitz.
The couple, who have been married since 1952, now live together at Erich-Mühsam-Straße 6 in Chemnitz. Until the age of 69, the jubilarian worked as an engineer in the automotive industry. He used to enjoy travelling through Europe with his wife, reading a lot and spending his free time fishing by the pond. Although he is unfortunately no longer able to pursue these hobbies due to his health, the couple still regularly visit their son's holiday farm on the Mecklenburg Lake District.
Son Thomas Lehmann, a well-known Chemnitz city councillor and leader of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group on the city council, is organising the celebration to mark his father's milestone anniversary. The celebration will be attended by family, friends and all those who have grown close to Fritz Lehmann over the course of his long life.
