Congratulations on your 100th birthday!

Elisabeth Unger celebrates her 100th birthday today, 2 January 2013

Elisabeth Unger is celebrating her 100th birthday today, 2 January 2013. The elderly jubilarian lives in the "Matthias Claudius" nursing home in Max-Schäller-Straße 3 in 09122 Chemnitz and is celebrating her special birthday here with her large family this afternoon from 3.30 p.m. with a cosy coffee party. A representative of the Mayor's Office will be on hand to wish her a happy birthday from the City of Chemnitz.

Despite her advanced age, Elisabeth Unger is walking well again after suffering a stroke in 2008 and enjoys socialising. She is therefore looking forward to this very special day, on which many well-wishers have announced their attendance. Her large family, of course, which now includes three children, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren - including a newborn.

Born in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, Elisabeth Unger, née Roscher, originally trained as a seamstress in her youth. She later reorientated herself and completed an apprenticeship as a seamstress with the tramway company. This training later benefited the whole family, who Elisabeth Unger supplied with clothes she had made herself. She also enjoyed dedicating herself to her hobby, an allotment garden in Bernsdorf. Today, however, she makes the most of the wide range of activities on offer at the care home, from handicrafts to baking and sports.
But there is no time for that on her day of honour, because her guests want to toast her wellbeing and chat about old times over coffee.
