Congratulations on your 100th birthday!

Ilse Pyka celebrates her "round" birthday on 23 October 2013

Ilse Pyka celebrated her 100th birthday on 23 October 2013. A representative of the Mayor's Office will be bringing the City of Chemnitz's congratulations to the anniversary celebration on 25 October at 4:30 pm in the cafeteria of the Caritas nursing home for the elderly, Eislebener Straße 12 in 09126 Chemnitz.

The family is in the middle of preparations for the big anniversary celebration: Ilse Pyka, née Gerlach, is celebrating her 100th birthday on 23 October. Born in Mittelbach, Ilse Pyka trained as a seamstress and worked in glove production in Mittelbach for many years. Her first husband was killed in the Second World War and so she had to support her two children Giesela and Bernd alone.

She married for the second time in 1952 and from then on provided for the family as a housewife. They spent many happy years together until her husband's death in 1990.

Since then, the family has grown considerably. Her granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren are expected to attend the family celebration on Saturday at the Caritas nursing home.

This is where the senior citizen has now found the centre of her life. Despite her hearing loss and age-related mobility restrictions, she keeps a close eye on what is going on around her and looks forward to regular visits from her daughter and granddaughter.
