Congratulations on your 100th birthday!

Johanna Wittber celebrates her "round" birthday on 3 June 2014

Johanna Wittber celebrated her 100th birthday in Chemnitz on 3 June 2014. A representative of the Mayor's Office will be wishing her a happy birthday at 4 p.m. at the Kreuzstift senior citizens' centre at Kanzlerstraße 31 in 09112 Chemnitz.

Family has always been the most important thing for Johanna Wittber. Growing up together with her sister in their parents' house in Reichenbrand, the siblings' families lived side by side in the same house until 2008. The small garden was Johanna Wittber's pride and joy; it was her favourite place to spend time.

After her marriage to Paul Wittber and the birth of her son in 1940, she gave up her work as a knitter and devoted herself entirely to the family and the house.

Several strokes of fate hit the very elderly senior citizen hard in recent years: after the death of her husband in 2007, her only son Peter died the following year. Her grandson Armin and his family lovingly cared for her grandmother. A fatal accident then took the grandson's life in 2011.

Johanna Wittber has now found a new home at the Kreuzstift for six years. She now has care level II and is dependent on help. She feels well looked after here. The celebrations to mark her milestone anniversary will also take place here, surrounded by her family and fellow residents.
